#NEPALI SONG CHORI MALAI BHAGI BHAGI MOVIE#
Director Tshering Ritar delivers some thrilling experiences through the movie with what we would call mundane. How come our makers never see him as a capable actor? The colors seem to be vibrant according to the scenes and camera movements are unprecedented for that era, not just cinematography almost everything seems unprecedented for that era. We have seen him in comedic songs all along our childhood that it took me a while to adhere to him with a serious role. The most underrated aspect I felt was Ratan Subedi as Deepak. Gauri as Saraswati who is sorrowful with trauma, anxiety and on the verge of a mental breakdown is brilliant. Gauri Malla’s energy also matches with Mithila Sharma. Her expressions when she is possessed is the one to look out for. She as the character of Gita switches between the soft women yearning for touch of love and the fierce healer who cures her patient by violently beating them.

The weird climax is what will leave you bewildered. But their happiness is short-lived as unprecedented events occur in their life and Saraswati tries to find the answers through the jhakrini (shaman) Gita who is closest to the deity. They both desire a son in the family for which Saraswati prays to an unknown deity called “Tripura Mata '' and her prayers are answered. Saraswati is a superstitious and religious woman living happily with her husband and 2 daughters. Based on real incidents, the movie revolves around a religious wife and her husband who resorts to a shaman to communicate with the powerful deity named “Tripura Mata” to amend her wrongdoings as well as to fulfill her wishes. Mukundo- The Mask of Desire was Nepal’s official selection for the Oscars in the year 2000, first independent Nepali movie to do so. #mukundomaskofdesire #mithilasharma #tsheringritasherpa #nepalicinema #gaurimalla She is surrounded by people who are mostly married with their kids, leading a totally different lifestyle.Usually when majority of people are doing the same thing and think alike a group is formed and if we think differently and are perceived differently we are considered misfit.Just like the little sister was considered dumb when she wanted to marry her own brother Gita in her own words is "unlucky "because she didn't fit in. When Dipak visits her for his wife Saraswati's treatment she finds the love she was searching for.She looks at Saraswati and Dipak's family and craves for a family for herself filled with love. The problem here is that she is labeled as a goddess and her image becomes a big hindernce for her to lead a life she wants. So her life mainly revolves around her patient. She has earned respect for her work but all she craves for is "love".And when she tells "you are lucky if you can fit in the society" that's her deepest desires speaking aloud. Now the conversation reminds me of another scene (second picture) from the same film where Gita (Mithila Sharma) is telling Dipak " you are lucky if you fit in the society."Everyone perceived Gita as a Goddess as she is believed to be possesed by Goddess and heal people who are suffering from disease. We see her innocence here, her mind is still pure and untouched by the rules that society has defined. But the elder sister is more aware of the rules so she snaps her and calls her dumb. So,when the little sister blurts out innocently that if a baby boy is born than she wants to marry her brother. Saraswati(Gauri Malla) and Dipak (Ratna Subedi)a married couple discussing the gender of their unborn child with their two daughter is a beautiful portrayal of innocence and how we have bounded ourselves into societies rules.Society has set of rules,a man will only marry a women, we are told whom to love and whom not to,gender roles are defined, relationships are labeled and if anything beyond this happens it's unusual for us.
